The Directory Submission Process

A directory submission can provide you with a powerful link from a well respected online resource. Directories were once the method that people used on the Internet in order to find information. Even when search engines came along they retained a lot of importance as the likes of Google used directories to help them find links and locate new pages that were not yet included in their indexes.

Directories

While the directories are not commonly used in the way they once were, they are still important, especially to the SEO minded website owner. A submission consists of a title which is generally your primary keyword. You can add a description of your website and include keywords while also picking the most appropriate category or subcategory for your link to be placed.

Confirming Your Links

Once you have submitted your link, most directories will want to confirm your submission. You may need to click a confirmation link in an email or you may have to wait while the directory checks your website and determines whether it is worthy of inclusion. The latter most often proves to be the case with topic specific or niche directories, of which there are usually many to be found for any given industry.
